Workshops for Parents Workshops for Students
Workshop Explanation:
Students and/or individuals along with parents/guardians and their employment specialists will complete an eight-week training period at the end of their junior year or once they are accepted into the program. This program consists of multiple workshops that will enhance and build skills needed to sustain employment. These workshops are broken up into different sections that will allow for the student/individual to learn every step to getting a job. Through the use of “gentle teaching” each person will have completed:
-Several community based vocational assessments with regards to strengths, and abilities that the person already possesses
-A basic resume that consists of all the person’s contact information, previous experience, and educational successes
-Sample job applications both online and in paper/pencil form
-Several "mock-interviews"’ to simulate what will occur at a job interview
-"Role-playing" of behavior expected while on the job
Each of these workshops will be used to help the student/individual and parents/guardians to become familiar with their employment specialist and understand the role they will play in the transition process.
